What is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a non-essential amino acid, naturally produced in the liver. Although your body produces its own glutathione, poor diet, pollution, medications, stress, trauma, aging, infections, and radiation all reduce your levels of glutathione. This amino acid is a combination of three simple building blocks of protein: cysteine, glycine and glutamine. Glutamine has many important roles in the body. Its most notable role is to help the body produce and reuse antioxidants. This amino acid also helps the body get rid of heavy metals and other harmful toxins in the body by carrying them into the bile and stool to excrete them. This amino acid can be sourced from the diet from foods such as onions, avocados, nuts and meats. If you feel you may be deficient in this amino acid, supplementation may be necessary.
